A giggle from Texas
06.29.05 (12:03 pm)   [edit]

An Indian chief had three wives, all of which gave birth. The first had a boy and the chief built her a teepee of deer hide. The second also had a boy and the chief built her a teepee of antelope hide. When the third gave birth, the chief built her a two story teepee, made out of a hippopotamus hide. The chief then challenged the tribe to guess what had occurred. Many tried, unsuccessfully.

Finally, one young brave declared that the third wife had given birth to twin boys. 'Correct,' said the chief. 'How did you figure it out?'

Ready?

The warrior answered, 'It's elementary. The value of the squaw of the hippopotamus is equal to the sons of the squaws of the other two hides.'

HAR!  I love MATH HUMOR!!!

Howdy from Houston!

We now rejoin the stress fest already in progress ...

I WANT ZEN AND I WANT IT NOW
06.24.05 (8:13 am)   [edit]

A wee bit stressed lately. Money is tight and I have a week long business trip starting tomorrow. Sure, they reimburse me for most of it but I have to pay the bill FIRST then they reimburse.  Plus there are expenses they won't cover (like to entertain Katie during the day while I'm in meetings).  Doug and I always lived pretty much on what I made and now with the attorney fees and settlement, the bills of his that I agreed to pay (that STILL are coming in, dammit, from earlier this year) ... I'm tapped out.  It all comes to about $9000 and when this all started, I had $4000 in the bank.  Yeah. Things are a bit tight.

I am a creature of habit.  I like my bed, my fridge, my house.  Uprooting to a strange place for a week makes me anxious.  Being in a huge city that I get lost in STILL after traveling there for years - makes me anxious.  Being in a small space with my mom for a week makes me anxious.  Now the travel bills are coming in - and less money (I lost a huge chunk of my check by being single again, thank you Uncle Sam).   I haven't been able to fall asleep before 2 a.m. in a week.  I'm tired, dammit.

Plus there's that fear that the fear will come back.  For many years I was so agoraphobic that I could NOT fly.  Hell, I could barely leave my house.  I don't have Xanax any more and I'm nervous that I'll be nervous especially in front of my daughter and mother and AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!& nbsp;  It's a 9:25 a.m. flight - is that too early to drink alcohol?!  ;)

Plus, there's been one guy pressuring me to slip off at lunch and have sex - which makes me feel like shit, NO THANK YOU.  There's a guy that I like ... well, it isn't working out; and there's a guy that was acting interested in getting to know me then pushed really hard to meet and kept talking about sex and has now shoved far away because I wasn't measuring up to his ideal of trustingness....

Ummm hello???   I've been divorced 2 weeks - could yall give me a WEE bit of a break while I repair my life?!  Maybe recover a few brain cells?

I'm obviously not ready for anything involving the heart.  I'm going back to my cave and not coming out till I feel safe.   Maybe 2006.

Rehearsal Night

Show Day!

Pics!
06.21.05 (5:57 am)   [edit]
I usually post the most adorable (if I say so myself) pics of Katie... well here's one of her pre-show where she didn't quite have a happy face on just yet.

[image]almsthvn_965403569 .jpg[/image]
As cute as the little clownies were, these were the absolute ugliest costumes in the whole show! Next year I want sparklies and satin!

And because I haven't drooled over him in a few seconds, here's some Gerry-deliciousness.

Odd Thoughts
06.20.05 (11:16 am)   [edit]
Helped Doug move out yesterday. It wasn't so bad. We got on fine, Katie was into it, his new apartment is really cute and in a nice safe-looking neighborhood. It gets a stamp of approval ;)

Spent 6 hours with my Mom and Dad the day before. They came up for K's recital.  Mom managed to piss me off good 3 times.  I'm about to spend a week in a hotel room with her.  Lordie Lordie grant me patience NOW.

Getting the pre-flight stomach jitters, and it's still 5 days away :(

For every 2 things I remember, I seem to forget 1 biggie.  I thought this would ease up when the stress died off. Maybe after the trip?

Get along with your co-workers. Try to resist the temptation for teasing them for not calling in to your 1:00 p.m. meeting.  Particularly if the meeting REALLY begins at 1:30.

I'm so damn tired I can't even think straight.  I wanna go home and go to bed :(

Dance Recital and Stuff
06.18.05 (4:48 pm)   [edit]
The dance recital was simply amazing. Even my cranky dad giggled, clapped and cheered at the 100+ tiny tots doing their sparkly best. There were 32 acts - 2 girls dissolved into tears, 1 wandered off the stage mid-number, and Katie saw me from the stage and jumped and waved hello. Priceless. I'm so glad I ordered the DVD, can't wait to see it up close.

Let's give our pal JT a little love, shall we? This is their big moving day and I'm sure they could use some positive vibes at the end of a long sweaty day.

Did I mention Katie was simply adorable? I didn't? Well she was :)

After the recital, we - oh, I didn't mention. My mom and dad and best friend Judy came, too! Judy gets a medal for coming to a recital that no blood kin were in ;) Ok, afterwards, we went to Wendy's for Frosty, fruit, and other yummies. Katie was a little lunatic and nowhere near as worn out as I felt ;) Then we came home and played with hula hoops and bean bags. Amazing the games you can make up!

So now we're home, all company has left, and we're just chilling. I'm so proud and happy for the girlie. What a fun day!

I just remembered - my dad said several times throughout the day "This being a Grandfather thing is REALLY cool." I like watching him with her. He loves her through and through. Brings back fond memories of my own :)

5 Things I Miss about my childhood
06.17.05 (9:03 am)   [edit]
I've seen this floating around, and wiccachicky asked for volunteers to pick it up (rather than doing that annoying "tag" thing) so I thought I'd give it a whirl.

1. Going to my Grandfather's house.  He died about 10 years ago and I would love to go back to his house with the mimosa tree out front and the  forsythia in the backyard and hear his stories for the billion and oneth time.

2. Summer vacations.  Being a grown up can suck sometimes ;)

3. Opening up the back door and hiking up the hill that was our backyard. I used to pretend I was an Indian (being 1/32 Cherokee) and try to walk as quietly as possible, leaving no trace.

4. Friendly Wars with the boys - we built a fort, they tore it down. They built a fort, we tore it down.  We used walkie-talkies to spy on them and built traps.  Great fun!  Then I got sweet on one of the boys and the wars disappeared - but the kisses were divine (I think I was 10?) :)

5. Safety. That feeling that no matter what the world threw at me, I was safe on my Dad's lap.

Katie's Rehearsal
06.16.05 (9:48 pm)   [edit]
Prepare yourself for massive cuteness...

Dance Rehearsal slideshow!

Rehearsal last night went really well. She had a complete blast. No stage-fright in this girlie! (SO unlike her mama.) Her dance is fairly early in the program and the kids were allowed to leave rehearsal as soon as their number was done. Katie ran around in the cafeteria for awhile then wanted to go back in the auditorium and watch the rest of the dancers. She laughed, cheered, and applauded every number. "It's all so beautiful, Mommy". I couldn't even bribe her away with a Frosty - and THAT, my friends, is serious.

We finally tore away after the final dance practice - she remembered the Frosty then ;) Then we got home and I started her bath water. Rather than get undressed, she just laid down on the bathroom rug and nearly went to sleep. I wrastled her into the tub, where she re-energized a bit and then got her tucked into bed. We did a couple of stories, said our prayers, and as I told her one last story her lovely eyelids drooped lower and lower, until she gently fell off to sleep.

Well this is creepy!

Divorce Humor?
06.16.05 (10:47 am)   [edit]
I was looking at the paperwork this morning. It's full of eye-glazing phrases like "parties of parts" and blah blah blah.  But this phrase made me laugh REALLY hard.

"The Court finds that the parties are incompatible, and that Plaintiff is entitled to a divorce as prayed for in the Complaint."

I know I'm weird and often see humor in things that other people don't, but... *giggle* .. I can't help it.  That's friggin' funny.  Prayed for.  LOL! :lol"

Oh, and another tidbit.  The day we were waiting in the hall to go into court - same place we had to wait prior to attending those lovely parenting-through-divorce classes - my jaw dropped open.  Over the PA is the most god-awful 70-80's love songs you can imagine.  I suggested to my attorney that they shift to something plain like Classical.  Last thing they'd need is for someone to come in the building and hear "their song" and go postal.  Yikes!

Tis Done
06.16.05 (5:44 am)   [edit]
I got the paperwork in the mail yesterday. I'm officially divorced. Look out, world :)

I'm IMMENSELY proud of my mom-ness. Katie tried on her costume and about 50 safety pins later, you can see her feet again. She's such a cute little munchkin :)

Ooooo I know! I need to buy a sewing machine! SHOPPING!
Oh wait. Attorney fees. Fuck.

I figured that my expenses would finally be humane again in about 4 months. I'd have a shot at it sooner, but there's a business trip in my near future. I'll get reimbursed the major expenses but since I'm taking my mom along to babysit, there will be more $'s spent that aren't business-related. Whoop. Still, it should be a nice break.

I have 15 days of vacation I need to schedule between now and end of year, but no money to go anywhere. Anybody out there live on a beach that wouldn't mind a couple of stragglers for a couple weeks? no? Oh bother.

Oh well, something will work out - I have high hopes! (she's got high hopes! She's got High Apple Pie in the Sky hopes! (wtf does that mean, anyway)

What Color is Your Heart?
06.15.05 (12:11 pm)   [edit]

Your Heart is Pink
Wow, this is almost gross.  You love anything and everyone. It's great that you think so highly of everything but just so you know, most of the world does not share your 'peppy' feelings.

You may want to cut back on those happy pills.

Cluster MOVED.  HAH!  HAH!!!  VICTORY!

Wednesday
06.15.05 (8:50 am)   [edit]
I'm getting less creative with the titles - not that they were creative to begin with.  Deal.

I hate it when half the hooks of my front-hook bra come undone during the day.

Hard to believe I missed a day posting - it was a mellow day.  Katie was such an angel Monday with the server cluster exploding (a major cluster-duck, I've been calling it) - that required nearly all my attention Monday night.  As a reward, Tuesday was her day to do whatever she wanted.  We ate at her favorite Chinese place - no Wedding March or Happy Birthday music this time.  Then we went home and played games, read stories, and watched a video.  'twas nice!

Some folks seemed amused at the last post covering so many different topics.  That's how my brain works.  Blip. Blip. Blip. My stance is that it's a sign of high-intelligence. Multi-tasking.  However, it slips into scatter-brainedness when you forget to go back and tidy up the loose ends.  C'est la vie.

Good luck with your presentation tomorrow, FurryWelshOne!

Was nice chatting with you, HeWhoMustNotBeNamed!

I was at the hardware store buying "death to the ants" spray yesterday morning.  At the cash register they had a bucket of key holders - they were the metallic D-shaped kind, all kinds of colors.  I was debating which one I wanted and trying to think of a good justification for getting one when I realized - I was mesmerized by a bowl of shiny objects!  I laughed at myself and moved on, keychain-less.

Tomorrow is the dress rehearsal for the dance recital.  She really really really does not want to wear the costume.  (I don't blame her, it's a hideous clown thing) Ummm... no costume, no dance.  Period.  Tomorrow evening should be FUN!  She's so mule-headed.  Where DOES she get it. (blinks eyes innocently)

In 30 minutes, we begin Round 2 of "move the cluster".  Wish me luck.

Last night I got an email from an old friend I haven't seen in years.  It was quite a boost to hear (see) someone that's not my Dad say I'm special!  Woo!

I heard through the grapevine that a lady down in our Houston office is having a supremely bad day. I sent her a little note wishing her well.  She has no idea who I am we just have a mutual friend. I hope it helps her to get a little cheer.

Though I personally prefer Tide.  HAR!

Nearly cluster time!  Get yer lube ready!

Monday Monday
06.13.05 (9:21 pm)   [edit]
Remember the server I cursed and cursed awhile back, that's since been working really well? Well, the main IT group couldn't possibly leave alone for long, so they decided to revamp the network out from under it. Boom. 6 hours later WonderBoy (sys admin) was finally able to get it back online. And we get to start all over again tomorrow.

Katie was an angel and amused herself most of the evening, freeing me up to babysit the server and basically freak out.

Steven was quite helpful (plus cute as hell) so that was a healthy distraction. Thanks, big guy!

When I was stressed to the point that my chest started hurting, I took Katie outside. She rode her big wheel and I walked a block or two and felt much better.

Michael Jackson - may you and OJ live long and miserable lives. Where's Lorena Bobbitt when we need her. I wish those who planned the War on Iraq were under the same level of scrutiny as Michael Jackson.

Pizza-flavored Goldfish crackers aren't nearly pizza-y enough for my taste.

Ronald McDonald was interviewed on a national news channel today about his new outfit. Holy Moley, he's a FICTIONAL CHARACTER!!

I nearly burned down the place tonight. I was trying to fix Katie a snack and talk on the cell phone with work coz I was dialed in on the regular phoneline. I tossed a popcorn thingy into the microwave and set the time AS DIRECTED. I had to move away from the microwave coz it was interfering with the cell - when I heard Katie yell "MOM!! IT'S FOGGY IN HERE!" Smoke EVERYWHERE. Helpful hint: If bag says 5 minutes, it means 3.

Umm. My brain just shut off. I've had one-half of a Mike's Hard Lemonade. Boy, am I a boozer or what!?

I still want that cat.

Weekend Update
06.12.05 (1:21 pm)   [edit]
I'm a bit more redhead - maybe that explains the extra crabbiness this morning. Yeah, that's it ;) Not hormones.. no no no...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com (Pssst.. that's Katie's pic on the left, and Heywood Banks on the right!)

Katie is still blonde but was uber crabby this morning, too. I NOT CRABBY she yelled. Ya huh!

Finally to break the cycle I got us dressed (no small feat) and went on an "adventure". The SPCA has a place nearby so we went there to look at the doggies and kitties. The dog room was way too noisy so we walked in and back out again. The kitties held our attention a good hour or more. I nearly brought one home with me. She's a beautiful tortoiseshell, 2 years old, VERY calm, slinked right into my lap and snuggled up. Her owner passed away, it said :( It seemed afraid of other cats, so I don't know how she would react to Toby and vice versa, but I think a calm companion would work for him? If we weren't about to take off for a week I think I'd go back and get her. I still might. She was really lovely, and so sweet.

Movie Day!
06.11.05 (2:06 pm)   [edit]
Today's movies and review, Sheryl style:

Finding Neverland - brilliant. Johnny - adorable, the kids fabulous, Kate Winslet lovely and Julie Christie was lovely. I can't wait to see it again, was a beautiful lovely film and Johnny was wonderful. The boy that plays Peter plays Charlie in the new "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" with Johnny playing Willie Wonka. He's an amazing little actor, it should be good!

Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star - David Spade usually annoys the snot out of me, but this was cute. More than a tad bit predictable but cameos out the whazzo and a killer song rolls during the credits. Go pee before the credits roll or you'll wet yourself.

Mask of Zorro: Was just flipping channels and saw that hot sexy man named Antonio Banderas and will spend my last 60 minutes in high-volume droolage. He's another one that is so sexy I just wanna say "FUCK!"
** Addendum *** DAMN he looks good in tight pants and a ruffly shirt. FUCK!

And this concludes "Sheryl's child-free movie time", enjoy!

STORY TIME!
06.10.05 (4:24 pm)   [edit]
An older lady was somewhat lonely and decided she needed a pet to keep her company. So off to the pet shop she went. She searched and searched. Nothing seemed to catch her interest, except this ugly frog. As she walked by the jar he was in, she looked and he winked at her.

He whispered, "IM LONELY TOO, BUY ME AND YOU WONT BE SORRY."

The old lady figured--WHAT THE HECK, she hadn't found anything else. She bought the frog and put him in the car.

Driving down the road the frog whispered to her "KISS ME AND YOU WONT BE SORRY." So the old lady figured WHAT THE HECK, and kissed the frog.

IMMEDIATELY the frog turned into an absolutely gorgeous sexy young handsome prince.

THE PRINCE THEN KISSED THE OLD LADY BACK..........AND GUESS WHAT THE OLD LADY TURNED INTO?

COME ON GUESS?

OOOOOOOHHHHHHH COME ON

SHE TURNED INTO THE FIRST MOTEL SHE COULD FIND.

HAR!

Houston Bound!
06.09.05 (10:59 pm)   [edit]
We'll be heading down in a couple of weeks for a week.

Any suggestions for ways to amuse a 4 year old? I've been there several times but am hoping you'll come up with a couple new ideas. I love to go to NASA when I visit, and the Children's Museum is a given, but I'm happy to entertain any suggestions?

Now if I could just get the Glen Campbell song "Galveston" out of my head... (am I old or what?!)

entrancing
You have an entrancing kiss~ the kind that leaves
your partner bedazzled and maybe even feeling
he/she is dreaming. Quite effective; the kiss
that never lessens and always blows your
partner away like the first time.

What kind of kiss are you?

Boy, they got THAT right ;)

Share the Music!
06.08.05 (9:24 am)   [edit]

Let's play music tag today!

I'll post a couple links to some music I like that I think you may not have heard.  You give it a listen and let me know what you think... Then put a couple links on your page, etc.

Maybe we'll all find some new favorites :)

These 2 are Mike Keneally and Bryan Beller - Keneally on acoustic guitar, Bryan on bass (acoustic in one song, electric in another)

"Hello" from Mike's album "Dog"  Beautiful, warm, toasty
"Dee n A" and "Bear Divide" from a live guitar clinic.  If that link doesn't work, go here and scroll down for the song title (but listen to them all, lovely lovely lovely - you've not heard guitar and bass like this, believe me)

I'm going to cheat and add a 3rd.  This is a Dutch band called in 't wild.  I love this tune!  (the lead singer is hot and the guitarist is ... aahh!)

Ok, your turn!

GAH!!!

Rinna is the CUTEST thing!
When you depend on a 4 year old to put sunscreen on your back, you wind up with interesting sunburn patterns.
A building full of psyched up tiny tots rehearsing for their first recital is ADORABLE.
I think that proves I'm a mom, I can't imagine anyone else experiencing that chaos and feeling the same way.
We've had our first day of heat and humidity. That's enough.
Texas is gonna suck - but I still have to make the arrangements.
I had a great visit in WV. giggle. blush. giggle.

Skary Stuff

Check out my friend Katy's "Childrin R Skary" site - she's a warped human being :) She's got wallpapers, avatars, quizzes, even prints and soon there may even be t-shirts.

WV Report

Long-time suffering readers of this blog will know that I love my home state with a crazy passion and that I've been shaking the nuts out of my family tree for close to 15 years. I got a call from my mom that a distant cousin that we didn't know prior had made arrangements to have memorial stones made for our common ancestors, George and Henry. This father and son fought for the Confederacy and are buried in a now-abandoned cemetery.

It's been a frustrating comedy of errors. This lady Ruth had called my folks and left her number but no area code. Her last name was hard to hear on the message and could be spelled a jillion different ways, so there was no way to contact her.

Somehow they got reconnected and we learned that the ceremony was Saturday June 4 at the old cemetery. Nobody bothered to ask directions how to get there because Mom and her sister were confident they could find it again - they used to go there when they were kids. So from 3 different states we converged yesterday.

Three generations of us sat in our cars at the bottom of the hill trying to figure out where the cemetery was. I was SO frustrated and nearly in tears, it was warm and muggy and my daughter was getting really antsy, and no one even had the lady's cell phone with her to call her. I was so disappointed!

Today my mom called to say that the front page of the paper has a big color photo of the ceremony. Sons of Confederate Veterans attended, there were period costumes... my heart just broke. All those years of researching my family and here was the biggest event to ever happen and I missed it by a few hundred feet. I'll get another chance to visit, I'm sure, but it would have been a great honor to participate.

Like the poem Ozymandius - it's humbling to realize that after our passing, odds are slim that anyone will remember anything about us as time passes. What we leave behind isn't the material things - how many family heirlooms survive 100 years any more? Our "mark" is in the spirit of those who follow us. Gives you something to chew on, doesn't it.

You Are Sometimes Open Minded About Sex

You know what you like and what you don't!

You will try new things, but...

You're quite picky about what you'll try

When it comes to sex, you like to stick to what already works

So, Hi!

Today was the court hearing and it went pretty well. The judge took a great deal of time to review the split of property, etc. We were given a short recess to rethink the child support and I think the terms reached were really fair. By paying some child support, it keeps Doug more actively involved in the parenting and less that of a babysitter. We negotiated to give Doug 6 months to get on his feet with his new job(s), apartment, and to make a home that Katie will be safe and happy visiting. I think that's an appropriate focus and I think both Doug and I were treated fairly.

Mostly I'm just relieved it is DONE. It takes awhile for the papers to do their thing, but it should be in the next few weeks.

Guess how I'm "celebrating" the end of the stress? Go ahead, guess!

Here's how this WILD WOMAN spent her first few hours post-court: I had a Wendy's Frosty, came home and made a few calls, then fell sound asleep for 2.5 hours. WOOOOO! Tonight, Katie and I are heading to WV. (giggle)

And guess what I'm doing tomorrow? I'm going to a CEMETERY! WOOOOOO!!! Beware my massive partytude!

Anywhoo, silliness aside, thank you to everyone who has been so supportive through the whole gamut of this ride. Your emails, IM's, and phone calls have been such a help from the early decision-making steps through to the conclusion. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You all have a special place in my heart.

Hmmm!

You Are The Wayfarer Guide
"I'll show you the way."

Your deep insight and quick wisdom never ceases to amaze those around you. You are the guiding light for many of those you know and are not afraid to help anyone else who asks. Not very many acknowledge your tremendous help and effort, but you do not mind that so much. You've seen what is in store for them, and will be there should they need your help. You enjoy people in general, but are very selective of who you let see the real you. Others see you as an enigma of sorts, a mystery that is seemingly ever changing.
